It's been too long since I've update the news section however: New from the Kaneie forge I have received a large shipment of T10 Shinken (sharp!). Of all modern steels, T10 has by far the most similarities to Tamahagane. For instance; T10 is a carbon steel with a carbon content around 1.1%. Also not a lot additions such as silicon or mangane have been added which make T10 a relative simple steel.
However, T10 does not respond to traditional polishing stones which make the Jizuya and hazuya polishing stage pretty much useless, also Nugui oil does not color the steel as been done on traditional Japanese nihonto. For this reason we have stopped after the uchigomori stone; which is the last stone before starting with the kesho hadori polish (with hazuya, jizuya and nugui oil).
T10 swords have, due the the extreme hardness of the material, an excellent balance and stifness. They are really perfect for iai as well as tameshigiri. Would you like to see more, please check out our T10 categorie in the shop or contact us.
