Jigen ryū 示現流 was founded by Togo Fujihei Hizen Chui in the late 16th century, and specializes in kenjutsu (swordsmanship).
Jigen ryū is known for its emphasis on the first strike: the schools teachings state that a second strike is not even to be considered.
Currently Jigen ryū is located in Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan and is led by Togo Shigenori (12th generation headmaster and successor to the school)
The Shimazu family weapon is a circle with a cross in it, where circle is said to represent the skull; the vertical stripe “Ichigeki Hassatsu” (one stroke, one kill) from Jigen ryū and the horizontal line is the imprint of the own sword that tried to parry but failed.

When available a video by Steven Fletcher Radzikowski of Gudkarma Arts is used. We wholeheartedly support his projects regarding the documentation of classical budō.
